Cell Respiration
Glycolysis

  • Process of breaking down carbon-606_07aGlycolysisOverview_L.jpg
  • Carbon-6 molecule is too large
  • Can't fit through mitochondria membrane
  • Produces 2 ATP

The Kreb's Cycle
  • Carbon-3 compound and oxygen are converted into CO2, 2 ATP, and lots of high energy electrons

Electron Transport Chain

  • High energy electrons are passed through chains
  • LOTS and LOTS of ATP (34)06_05cElectronTransport_U.jpg

Fermentation

  • If there's no oxygen after glycolysis
  • Anaerobic conditions lead to fermentation
  • 2 types, ALCOHOLIC and LACTIC
