Welcome to Table 6's home page for Chapter 6 of Embryology! This chapter will have information on male and female reproduction systems, fertilization, embryonic development and stages, and pregnancy. By the end of this chapter review, you should know how each human reproductive system works, functions, and helps each other. You will know how a female's egg gets fertilized, what the sperm does to help, and what stages the fertilized egg goes through. Finally, you will know much about pregnancy and the different stages a woman's body will go through.

Some very important key terms during our chapter:
  • Asexual Reproduction: one parent produces identical offspring
  • Blastula: fertilized egg that leaves the oviduct and implants itself into the uterine wall
  • Contraception: the deliberate prevention of pregnancy
  • External Fertilization: parents release their gametes into the environment
  • Gastrula: a fertilized cell that has formed 3 germ layers
  • Hermaphroditism: an individual having both sets of female and male reproductive parts and systems
  • Internal Fertilization: parents release their gametes into the body
  • Morula: fertilized egg with a ball of many cells
  • Ovaries: the gonad for the female reproductive system that releases ovum (eggs) into the fallopian tubes
  • Placenta: maternal-fetal organ that exchanges nutrients, gases, and waste with the embryo
  • PMS (PreMenstrual Syndrome: different levels of hormones
  • Sexual Reproduction: two parents produce genetic offspring
  • Testes: the gonad for the male reproductive system that produces sperm
  • Zygote: fertilized egg
